Fungi

Fungi

As you would expect, Norsey Wood is home to a substantial and diverse number of fungi, which we survey regularly. Our public 'Fungus Foray' events may look like great fun, but they also play an important role in surveying the wood for fungi species. At our last event, held in October 2022, a total of 35 species were identified, including 14 that we had not seen before. This doesn't mean they are particularly rare, just that they have not been spotted in wood previously.

Since 2017 a total of 98 species have been identified in the wood, so clearly we don't find every species in every year. The surveys still provide a useful guide. Click here for a table showing the species identified in each year since 2017.

Take a look at our gallery page for images from our last Fungus Foray, or our wildlife images page for pictures of some of the fungi to be found in the wood.
